Sonic Screwdriver Schematics

This post is intended to outline the basic design and construction principles used to create my sonic  screwdriver.

  1. In the blueprints, the transformer doesn't relate to anything else.

i talked to the creator and it is apparently for an inductive charging idea that was never implemented.

  3. Will there ever be step-to-step blue prints? It would be very helpful for someone not as bright with tech :D Thank you

  4. I'm currently undecided about what I want to do as far as releasing blueprints. I would really like to create a small startup company for the purpose of creating and selling these sonic screwdrivers. I need to decide whether I want to make them into an Arduino-style open source project or a closed source product. Any feedback for consideration is welcomed.

  5. I can definitely see the pros of an open source version to accompany a fully developed product. I was going to say that I couldn't think of any companies that had released an open source copy of their product such as this, but then I remembered that this is exactly what Google has done with Chromium.

Another thought that I had was that an open source copy would conflict with my ability to sell the ones that I build. But then again, thinking of the Chromium project, I could potentially build a community around an open source sonic screwdriver and use it to fuel development of new features that could be added to the commercial version.

I am interested in making the screwdriver for myself but I need a circuit diagram. Could you post a link to one or create a diagram? It would need to be clear for me to be able to recreate the design.
    Thank you.

  7. Can i ask how you began doing this sort of engineering work? any tutorials you followed online to get you started as a beginner or something similar? thanks in advance.

  8. I've had a combination of formal courses as well as several useful books of projects. There was a great book by Mark Tilden (http://amzn.com/0072226013) which is what got me started building some small projects in the beginning. Other than that I have always had an interest in electronics and programming so I have done a lot of experimentation with testing and building my own projects. My main recommendation for anyone who wants to start out is to find some good instructions for something they want to build and then follow them. The important part is that as you build you project you look at how all the components work together. That understanding is important for designing your own projects. A similar mindset can be applied if you want to program something. If you understand the logic behind the code then you can write a program in any programming language.
