Online Robotics Competition

Submissions accepted from 01/1/12 to 03/20/12

Greetings all robotics enthusiasts, tinkerers, and experimenters! I am kicking off this new year with the first official online robotics competition ever run on the Salvius robot blog. As you may already know, Salvius is a homemade robot composed of over 75% recycled materials. By recycling, the cost of building this robot has been cut into a fraction of what it would have cost to purchase all of the parts new. The goal of this competition is to reveal the homemade robotic creations of other builders. This robotics competition is run completely online and anyone may enter even if their robot is incomplete.

Robots that are entered in other competitions and challenges are also accepted so if your on a team competing in a FIRST or other robotics challenge you can still enter this one.

To enter, simply send me an email containing the following information to [email protected]

  1. What are your goals for your robot?
  2. What was your biggest obstacle while building your robot?
  3. Do you have any plans to improve upon the design of the robot in the future?
  4. Be sure to include a photo of the robot or a link to a blog about the robot.
  5. Be sure to include a name that you would like to be addressed as if you win.
  6. Include the robot's name if it has one.

Rules:

  1. If a photo is sent in an email it may not contain your face or the face of anyone else.
  2. No inappropriate material will be tolerated if any is found it will result in disqualification.

Judging:

A panel of judges will be looking at how the design of your robot aids its ability to carry out a task or set of tasks. A task can be as simple as walking or moving. The judges will also look for any programming you had to do because programming can take a lot of time and effort. They will also consider the simplicity or elegance of the robot's design.

The winner will be determined by a total of acquired points. A judges vote will give you 25 points. Judges reserve the right to give out additional points at any time. Competitors can also earn up to five points for every relevant comment they make on posts on this blog.

Judging will begin on 03/20/12.

Winners:
Winners will be announced the day after judging has been completed. Winners will be announced on this page at that time and they will receive a notification email with instructions for obtaining their prize!

If you have any questions feel free to leave them as a comment at the bottom of this page. Be sure to enter by sending an email to [email protected] and good luck!
